Introduction to Woodworking
My introduction to woodworking began in childhood with Japanese chisels and blocks of soap. Soap was forgiving, allowing me to explore the feel of the tools, make mistakes, and begin again. From there I moved to balsa wood and eventually to hardwoods, each step building both skill and a lasting love for the sculptural process.
Some of my greatest joys have come from working alongside my father on woodworking projects, several of which appear in the furniture section of this portfolio. From him, I learned not only technique but also the patience and care the craft demands. Today, I pass that spirit on to my children, introducing them to the pleasure of working with their hands and the satisfaction of shaping raw materials into something lasting.
